Have you noticed how online applications have exploded across the web this year? They’re slick and nimble, and making any computer you sit at, your pc.
If you haven’t notice yet, don’t worry. They’ll be a part of your routine in no time.
Some are remakes of things we already use. Google (of course), has a beta version of their spreadsheet software online. Perfect for sharing.
Others, like Backpack, change our ideas about what a program is, and what it can do for us.
They give us a place to store and share our files and our bookmarks. They help us keep track of where we’ve been, where are friends are now, and what we hope to do next. Heck, they’ll even help you search today for things that won’t be on the internet until some day later.
It’s easy to overload yourself with too much new. But online applications can’t be ignored.

The quick and widespread adoption of flickr and social networking sites demonstrate their instant ubiquity.
Prosper.com and peer-to-peer lending abroad, make their potential to transform undeniable.
It won’t be long before all of our files and applications are online, accessible wherever, whenever. Security will become more important, privacy a vestige of our past. And access by everyone, for better or worse, will be essential.
