I recently learned that the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) was originally opensource. 1
The public was asked (around 1857) to submit info about how they use words. The goal was to document how people use words, rather than establish top-down rules.
Enter Wikipedia. Should we doubt it’s accuracy, authenticity, and authority? It does have its blips, but what source doesn’t? Where else can you find extensive info that isn’t skewed by the perspective or even prejudice of an editor?
