Twitting out Fires

AddThis Social Bookmark Button twitter

Here’s a great story about using Twitter as a help center during the San Diego fires.

Nate Ritter used Twitter to distribute emergency information, the details that were otherwise hard to get from mainstream news. During his three days of reporting, he set up a phone line allowing people to call in information that he could relay to his growing audience.

Most people use Twitter for kicks, much less like a tool than email or blogging. But like all web tech, applied to the right task it can be quite powerful.
